    Spanish as a Second Language

    The Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures offers a program in Spanish as a Foreign Language to the international community and foreigners living in Colombia. The main objective of the program is to learn the language and improve communicative competences by working in the four language skills: listening, writing, speaking and reading; giving participants the opportunity to know our culture.

    Outcomes
    • Spanish communicative competence.
    • Ample acquaintance with Colombian and Latin-American culture.

    THE COURSES INCLUDE


    GENERAL SPANISH COURSE

    15 hoursof Spanish classes (per week)
    1 cultural activity or field trip (per week)
    1 extracurricular course (one class per week)

    INTENSIVE SPANISH COURSE

    20 hours of Spanish classes (per week)
    1 cultural activity or field trip (per week)
    1 extracurricular course (one class per week)

    ONE ON ONE LESSONS

    Participants in private lessons must take a minimum of 15 hours of Spanish classes.

    SUMMER PROGRAM

    80 hours of Spanish instruction
    16 hours of Latin American and Colombian Culture Course.
    8 hours of Latin music dancing course.
    4 cultural activities or field trips.
    Overnight trip to Villa de Leyva.
    Homestay accommodation
    (Individual bedroom, breakfast, dinner, laundry, TV and wifi).
    Airport pick-up
    Placement test
    Unlimited use of the language resource center “Studium”.

    Cultural activities and extracurricular courses

    We organize one activity per week and offer different options of extracurricular courses at no additional cost.

    General Spanish and Intensive Spanish students can select one course of the list at no cost. Courses are delivered once a week in the afternoon. Trips are organized once a week in the afternoon or Saturdays.

    Cultural activities and field trips (Among others):
    • City tours to famous monuments, museums and colonial surroundings
    • Visits to natural parks, amusement parks and ecological sites
    • Sightseeing tours
    • Paintball
    • Karting
    • Tejo (Colombian sport).

    Extracurricular Courses (Among others):
    • Sports (Tennis, swimming, rowing, ping-pong, soccer)
    • Handcrafts (jewelry, dolls, boxes, wrapping, linens)
    • Dancing
    • Cooking
    • Guitar playing
    • Photography
    • Singing.

    Homestay accomodation

    We offer home stay accommodation with Spanish-speaking families where students can share daily life. Host families are carefully chosen to assure a kind, comfortable, clean and safe service. Accommodation will always be in safe neighborhoods with nearby public transportation.

    Bogotá

    Bogotá has eight million inhabitants approximately and offers its visitors a great variety of options for entertainment, sports, art, culture and gastronomy.

    Cost: USD$150 (per week)


    Chía

    Chía has the advantage of being located very close to the university (only five minutes by car); this makes transportation fast and easy for people studying at the Universidad de La Sabana.

    Cost: USD$120 (per week)

    Hostel accomodation

    If you are looking for a friendly and independent place, a hostel is your best option. It is cheaper than a hotel, but you can have the comfort and services hotels offer. The price can vary depending on location, amenities and luxury.  We offer different options in Bogotá and Chía. 

    Cost:  USD$28 to USD$250 (per night)


    Bogotá is the capital city of Colombia and Chía is a small town located just 8 kilometers from Bogota.

    Refund policy

    There is not refund of money. If eventually a student has to return home earlier than expected, we will arrange for one on one lessons to be delivered before departure.
