    OMDP1110     Introduction to Business for Independent Trade Contractors
    Description: This course identifies the elements of setting up and running an independent trade business. Learners will be exposed to the steps necessary to establish a business while ensuring compliance with all regulating bodies. Students will also be introduced to principles related to registering a business with the government, determining whether to be a sole proprietor or an incorporated business, when to register for GST, managing employee payroll, calculating a profitable charge out rate, and understanding the importance of insurance. Successful completion of this course will enable students to demonstrate skills and knowledge necessary to run a privately owned trade business.

    Description: This course has been designed to identify the key factors in implementing a Quality Management System. It addresses five different Quality Management philosophies: Deming, Crosby, Juran, ISO 9000 and the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. It presents a number of continuous improvement tools which are applied in a continuous improvement methodology, focusing on the customer. Other areas of focus include teamwork, meeting management, conducting a gap analysis, implementation planning and auditing quality systems.     Description: Have you ever wondered what really goes into planning a special event, meeting or conference? This two day intensive hands on workshop will lead you through all the steps of the Meeting Cycle. We will consider objective design to fit into the overall vision of the client; discuss various learning styles as related to those attending the event; consider all the logistics; determine how to write an effective Request for Proposal, understand what makes a good venue, deal with potential crisis before they happen, be creative in our design, and when the event is done, discover how to determine if our objectives were met. Using a variety of tools including playdoh and the venue itself, you will leave the workshop with a comprehensive list of resources to help you and an understanding that events don't happen in a vacuum and are the result of team effort, with you, the planner, at the centre of the wheel making it all come together.

    OMDP1270     Event/Meeting Planning II
    Description: Now that you know the strategies of designing and implementing a business plan for a successful event or meeting, what else do you want to know? In this interactive course, you the participant will design the topics for discussion. You will act as facilitators. Prior to the one day course, a survey will be sent asking what topics you would like to discuss. Depending on interest, specific ones will be incorporated. Using a form of Open Space session design, other topics will surface and will be discussed. Come ready to participate in a free flowing discussion furthering your knowledge in the event/meeting planning profession. Improve your facilitating skills, put into action a form of presentation. At the end of the day, each group will report out and Sandy Biback, CMP, CMM will create a master list of topics and discussions for all to learn from.

    OMDP1430     Managing Conflict in the Workplace

    Description: Conflict is an intricate part of our daily lives and is inevitable in most business settings. However, the manner in which we choose to mange conflict can make a significant difference to both our well being and to the business's bottom line. This course identifies typical causes of workplace conflict and equips students to respond in a proactive and responsive manner. An analysis of a variety of interest-based approaches will be covered. The student will be exposed to various processes intended to improve communication, strengthen relationships and promote accountability in the workplace. Students will have an opportunity to practice skills in an exploratory setting and create a conflict management plan, including educating and training others. By the end of this program the student will have an enhanced appreciation for managing conflict with everyone's interests and profits
