Graduates of the program will have completed all of the classroom hours necessary for their trade certificate.     AEST-1032 -  Hair & Scalp-Level 1

    Upon successful completion of this course apprentices will be able to perform a scalp and head massage. The student will be able to perform a shampoo service, analysis the scalp and hair and recommend products for a salon service or for a home maintenance package. In addition, apprentices will be able to recognize common scalp and hair disorder and recommend appropriate treatments.

    AEST-1033 -  Hair Cutting & Styling Level 1
    Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to set and creatively style a client's hair using a variety of styling tools. They will also be able to recommend a haircut and style based on a client's profile and hair texture. The student will be able to perform a basic cut for women, men and children to meet the client's specifications.

    AEST-1034 -  Chemical Texture Services Level 1
    Upon successful completion of this course, the apprentice will be able to perform proper hair analysis for a chemical texture service. They will be able to explain and describe the physical and chemical actions that take place during permanent waving. Apprentices will be able to perform a basic permanent wave following manufacturer's directions.

    AEST-1035 -  Colour & Lightening Hair-Level 1

    Upon successful completion of Level 1 Colour and Lightening Hair the apprentice will be able to apply to consult with a client and do simple colour formulations to meet clients expectations. They will be able to apply a temporary, semi permanent or permanent colour to the hair to either remove natural or artificial pigment. Apprentices will also be able to lighten, tone or do a bilevel colour or highlight using a variety of basic techniques.

    AEST-3007 -  Hair & Scalp-Level 2
    Upon successful completion of this course, apprentices will build on existing skills and be taught intermediate massage therapy treatments including stress management techniques and relaxation techniques. The apprentice will be able to describe the systems of the body and the basics of electricity and safety issues and their relationship to the hairstylist.

    AEST-3008 -  Hair Cutting & Styling Level 2
    Upon successful completion of Level 2 Haircutting and Styling, the apprentice will develop and start to cultivate an understanding of intermediate level haircuts and styles using a variety of texturizing methods and tools. Students will start to develop a portfolio of long hair dress work, and braiding techniques. They will understand how texture, hair density, client profile and lifestyle play an important role in the success of a haircut and style.

    AEST-3009 -  Chemical Texture Services Level 2

    Apprentices will be taught intermediate level trends and techniques for both perming and straightening hair textures. They will discover new techniques that help in the salon.

    AEST-3010 -  Colour & Lightening Hair-Level 2

    On successful completion of Level 2 Hair Colouring and Lightening, the apprentice will be able to predict the natural underlying pigment of hair and how it will influence the colour results. They will be able to formulate colours to achieve coverage of gray hair, lightening of blonde and red hair. They will be able to lighten and tone a client who requires a double process colour and will be able to do a high lightener or a low light technique using foil.

    AEST-5002 -  Hair Cutting & Styling Level 3
    Upon successful completion of Level 3 Haircutting and Styling, the apprentice will develop and start to cultivate an understanding of advanced level haircuts and styles using a variety of texturizing methods and tools. Students will start to develop a portfolio of long hair dress work, and braiding techniques. They will understand how texture, hair density, client profile and lifestyle play an important role in the success of a haircut and style. Students will also be able to describe and fix various wigs and hair enhancements.

    AEST-5003 -  Chemical Texture Services Level 3

    Upon the successful completion of Color and Lightening Hair Level 3, the students will be taught all aspects of advanced color trends and techniques, and to combine a cut with a color to meet the client specifications or to create their own signature styles. They will learn to control and prevent undesirable tones, as well as how to determine hair color based on a clients skin tones or eye color. They will learn how color and the camera work together and have an opportunity to practice competitive color techniques.

    AEST-5004 -  Colour & Lightening Hair-Level 3
    Upon the successful completion of Colour and Lightening Hair Level 3, the students will be taught all aspects of advanced colour trends and techniques to combine a cut with a colour to meet the client specifications or to create their own signature styles. They will learn to control and prevent undesirable tones and great great folour and balance. They will learn how colour and the camera work together and have an opportunity to practice competitive colour techniques.

    AEST-5005 -  Facials & Makeup

    Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to distinguish between warm and cool skin tones. They will be able to provide support and recommend appropriate foundation, eye, and check lip colour. The student will have the knowledge of special occasion makeup, whether it is for wedding or the runway. In addition, the student will be able to perform a basic facial and recognize basic skin disorders.

    BUSI-1005 -  Introduction to Business Processes

    The purpose of this course is to explore the various functional areas of business in Canada and to demonstrate the interrelationship among these areas. Students are introduced to many concepts, including major business trends, the role of government in business, marketing, operations, employee-management issues, financial resources management, business ethics, social responsibility and community-related philanthropy.

    Upon successful completion of this course, thestudent will be able to perform routine salonfunctions by communicating with clients,colleagues, and co-workers.

    BUSI-1091 -  Salon Functions 2
    Upon successful completion of this course, thestudent will be able to perform routine salonfunctions by communicating with clients,colleagues, and co-workers.

    BUSI-3025 -  Salon Functions 3
    Upon successful completion of Salon Functions III,students will be able to perform advanced SmartAccounting Skills, including inventory control andtracking, payroll summaries, customer entries andchemical work databases. Students will also learnintermediate conflict management skills.

    FASH-1026 -  The Human Surface (The Meaning of Dress)

    Students will gain a better understanding of the meaning of dress as part of culture and society. Are we as individual as we think we are? Discussions include the 'rules' we follow, benefits and risks of dress, how our identity is developed through dress as well as how dress is relative to cultural, historical, social, and individual behaviour.

    SFTY-1023 -  Health & Safety-Level 1

    Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to demonstrate safe working practices in the workplace and be able to perform sanitisation procedures according to related health legislation.
