  • Objectives
The Automotive Service Education Program (ASEP) has been designed by General Motors to prepare automotive service technicians for a career with General Motors' dealerships. Over a two-year period, trainees alternate between formal classroom training and hands-on work experience in a dealership. Classroom instructors are trained by General Motors and are in tune with the latest trends in technology. New vehicles, training components and aids are provided by GM for trainees to work on. General theory and basic information are given practical applications. Trainees learn to identify problems, analyze them and apply solutions. Theory and practical application come together as trainees spend their work term in an actual dealership working on real vehicles for real customers. The classroom program includes courses in electrical systems, air conditioning systems, fuel systems, drivelines, engine mechanicals, power trains, steering and suspensions, brakes, options and accessories, computer-operated and assisted systems, truck components and systems, and body and trim. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates of the in-school and service facility training are required to pass a Province of Ontario examination to qualify for a Certificate of Qualification in the automotive services technician trade.
