Travel Consulting Ontario College Certificate

  • Objectives This program is designed to improve the knowledge and skill levels of persons wishing to enter into the travel industry as travel agents. The program consists of six core courses (Travel Consultant I, II, III, IV, plus a computer reservation system at the introduction and advanced levels), two business related electives and a placement with a travel agency. The core courses must be taken in succession, the electives may be taken at any time during the program and the placement will normally come at the completion of the core subjects. Students must complete the program in five years from commencement of the program. Upon successful completion of this program students will receive a Conestoga College certificate.

  • Course description TRAV1010      Travel Consultant I
    Description: The first course in a series being offered for those wishing to gain basic knowledge of the travel industry, this course emphasizes travel agency operations, tour bookings, modes of transportation, destination geography and airline ticketing. Further training will be required for those wishing to become a certified travel consultant.

    Description: Emphasis on this second course will be placed on travel agency operations, tour bookings, modes of transportation, destination geography - focusing on Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean - and airline ticketing.

    Description: The third course in the series will emphasize tour bookings, modes of transportation, destination geography - focusing on Britain and Europe - and airline ticketing.

    Description: This fourth course in the series will emphasize tour bookings, modes of transportation, destination geography - focusing on the South Pacific, Asia, the Middle East and Africa - and airline ticketing.

    TRAV1060     Travel Consultant (Placement)

    Description: Using skills in a hands-on manner with a travel agency or tour operator, this class' working hours, days and times will be arranged on an individual basis to satisfy both the agency/operator and the student. Ticketing, including completing ticket exchanges and refunds and all aspects of car/hotel reservation procedures and fundamental geography will be demonstrated.

    Description: To have an edge in today's marketplace you must excel in customer service. Providing a quality product or service is merely the entrance fee to play in the game. Learn the benefits of delivering quality customer service, the use of awards and assessment in a service culture, and the formulation of a quality service plan.

    OMDP1050     Dealing With Difficult People

    Description: Understanding people and being able to work with them, no matter what type of people they are, is one of the major keys to management and life success. Through this course you should be able to identify and cope with some of the most difficult behaviours you would encounter. Other topics include: personality styles, establishing rapport, body language, matching and mirroring techniques, and the skills necessary to feel totally connected with anyone you choose.

    Description: Applicants will develop self-confidence in preparing and effectively presenting their thoughts. This course will benefit house-holders, students, salespersons, shop stewards, teachers, etc. (OMDP students may use this course as 1 credit towards an OMDP elective credit.)

    OMDP1070     Finance And Budgeting Basics

    Description: This course is ideal for the recently appointed non-financial manager or business owner who wants to gain a better understanding of the role of finance in order to apply it to his or her own area of responsibility. Your increased understanding will also aid communication with financial colleagues and/or professional advisors. This will be an interactive presentation utilizing case study material in small group settings.

    OMDP1100     Marketing Strategies

    Description: In today's competitive marketplace, how do you make your service or product stand out from the others? Developing a marketing plan, being aware of lifestyle trends and understanding pricing techniques are just a few of the answers that will be explored. This course is intended for anyone interested in marketing and will have a special emphasis for those involved in small to medium-sized businesses.

    Description: Individuals in the workplace are increasingly being asked to assume the role of trainers. This course will provide an overview of the skills required in training groups and individuals. How to promote a training culture and doing needs assessments will be included, and developing, administering and assessing effective training plans will be highlighted.

    Description: What makes people 'tick' ... and how to keep them going! Human Relations will improve your understanding of people.
