    Program Structure
    This four-year program consists of seven semesters, two technical sessions and three work terms.
    First year: Two academic terms followed by a technical session.
    Second year:  Two academic terms followed by a technical session
    and a work term.
    Third year:  Two academic terms with a work term in between.
    Fourth year:  A work term followed by a return to campus for a final academic term. The three work terms allow for 180 sea days required for Transport Canada certification. A land-based option is available for those interested.

    What You'll Need

    You must meet the Marine Institute's Application and Admission Regulations either immediately upon graduation from high school, following a period of employment subsequent to graduation, or by transfer from another post-secondary institution.

    Transport Canada requires proof of satisfactory physical fitness, including visual acuity, colour vision and hearing among other physical requirements, prior to sitting for Transport Canada exams. Proof of physical fitness must be provided by way of signed Seafarer s and Marine Emergency Duties (MED) medicals from an approved physician for registration in this program. Contact the Registrar's Office for a list of physicians approved to conduct the Seafarer's or MED medicals.
