    Nearly every job that involves a computer requires skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access or PowerPoint software. In this hands-on, fast paced program you will learn a wide variety of ways to use MS-Office Professional software to automate your work, integrate your files and produce professional quality documents. By the end of this 114 hour, part-time program you will have developed a comprehensive portfolio that demonstrates your software skills. Software version: Office 2007. It is not necessary to commit to the entire certificate program prior to registering for individual courses. Choose from evening or daytime classes. Finish the courses in as little as six months (depending on scheduling, see course descriptions for timetable details) or take up to two years to complete.

    File Management

    You know your files are in that computer, but can you find them easily? If you own a computer, then you need to really understand how and why to plan your e-filing system, and how to confidently move, copy, paste, rename and burn files and folders. Learn these and many more time saving tips and tools. This course is a Prerequisite to all other software courses. Applicable to all current versions of Windows. Prerequisite: Computers Level 1 or equivalent skills.

    Access 2007 — Level 1

    Develop a solid foundation in relational database concepts and design while learning to use Microsoft Access. You will create and modify tables, forms, queries and reports. You will use realistic examples that emphasize how Access can be used to increase your productivity. Prerequisites: Word Level 1 and/or Excel Level 1 plus strong file management skills.

    Excel 2007 — Level 1

    Whether you are managing a household or running a small business, Excel will help you automate your books using everyday math. Includes basic spreadsheet techniques, how to enter, analyze, and calculate data, use simple formulas, create graphs and add formatting. Prerequisite: Strong file management skills.

    Excel 2007 — Level 2

    Realistic examples will be used to demonstrate ways to build on your basic knowledge of Excel to increase your productivity. You will construct advanced formulas, use worksheet information in database fashion, design charts, protect worksheet data, learn about macros, simple scenarios and more. Prerequisite: Excel Level 1 or equivalent skills plus strong file management skills.

    MS-Office Certificate Completion Project

    This exciting self-directed course is the final requirement for the MS-Office certificate. You will create and submit for grading a project of your choice, either fictitious or real, that demonstrates your ability to use and integrate Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. A tutor will be assigned to answer your questions. All courses and assignments must be completed prior to registering, and your project must be completed within two months of registering.     MS-Office Certificate Course Assignments

    For those pursuing the part-time MS Office Certificate program, a take home assignment is required after completing each course. Knowledge questions and exercises will reinforce your learning and help you prepare for the completion project. Fee includes all assignments for up to two years.

    MS-Office Integration

    Unleash the power of Office Pro! Did you know that a Word file can contain a spreadsheet automatically updated in Excel or be merged with either your Outlook or Access database? Linking and Embedding are the powerful, integrating features of MS-Office that will save you time! Learn how to use these remarkable tools to work seamlessly between Office applications. Prerequisites: Level 1 skills in Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

    MS-Office Pictures and Graphics

    Bring your documents to life! Adding graphics can enhance readability by as much as 50%. Learn how to position, adjust and enhance a wide variety of graphics including smart-art graphics, digital photographs and images you find on the Internet. Explains how to wrap text around, through and behind graphics in Word. Includes a brief look at the photo album option in PowerPoint. Prerequisite: Word Level 1 or equivalent skills.

    PowerPoint 2007 — Level 1

    Use PowerPoint to take your next presentation from dull to dynamic! Learn to create interesting presentations that include animated text, graphics, charts and sounds. Use master design templates to standardize your layouts and incorporate logos and other repeating elements. Investing the time to take this course now will save you time and effort when you build your next slideshow. Prerequisites: Word Level 1 or equivalent skills, plus strong file management skills.

    Word 2007 — Level 1

    Word is the world’s most popular word processing software. Learn how to create, edit, format and print elegant looking letters, posters and reports. You will enhance your work with formatting, use bullets and numbering, add simple borders, create mailing labels, print envelopes, use tab tables and more. You may be surprised by how many new skills you will take away from this course. Prerequisites: Strong file management skills. Keyboarding speed of 25 wpm recommended.

    Word 2007 — Level 2

    Learn to apply sophisticated Word features to enhance the look and efficiency of your work. Includes headers/footers, business cards, simple forms, creating tables, merging letters and labels, creating templates, working with columns, styles, auto text entries, table of contents, macros and more. Prerequisite: Word Level 1 or equivalent skills.
