      Durham College offers more than 100 full-time, market-driven programs through the following academic schools: Applied Sciences, Apprenticeship, Skilled Trades & Technology; Business, IT & Management; Career Development & Continuing Education;
Communication, Language & General Studies; Health & Community Services; Justice & Emergency Services; and Media, Art & Design.

Courses and training :
      The School of Career Development & Continuing Education (part-time study) offers 1,500 courses, 59 certificate programs, 14 diploma programs and two post-graduate programs in a wide variety of career and personal interest subject areas. The college's Corporate Training Services (CTS) department provides customized training to individuals and businesses that is designed to meet industry needs.

Facilities

The Oshawa campus:
  • The Oshawa campus houses an Integrated Manufacturing Centre, Centre for Integrated Studies, and state-of-the-art dental labs;
  • Our unique Interprofessional Centre of Excellence in Simulation is home to the 'Sim Family,' simulator people ranging from adults to infants. The simulators can speak and display various health ailments involving the heart, lung, bowel, vital signs and much more;
  • The award-winning Campus Library offers a warm and inviting atmosphere for individual and collaborative learning, including a bright, spacious second-floor study hall with two-storey ceiling. A glass rotunda on the southwest corner of the four-storey building features a first-floor cafe and a two-storey fireplace reading room;
  • Our Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre (CRWC) opened a 90,000-square-foot expansion in June 2007, featuring a 10,000-sq.-ft. fitness centre; two fitness/dance studios; two rooms for sports training and fitness-related classes; and a 28,000-sq.-ft.triple gymnasium with elevated jogging/running track and seating capacity for 2,000 spectators; and
  • The CRWC is also home to the Campus Health Centre, which features a full-service Lovell Drugs pharmacy and medical clinic that offers extended hours of service, on-site doctors, nurses, counselling and a variety of alternative health services, including massage therapy, physiotherapy, acupuncture, nutritional counselling, chiropractic and orthotic services.

Whitby campus
  • The campus is home to the Skills Training Centre and offers 200,000 sq. ft. of shop, class and student services space on 29 acres of land;
  • Expansion plans will see an additional 40,000 sq. ft. of new space added in the coming years; a suite of new energy programs focused on new-energy careers; a retrofit of the campus itself to become energy efficient and energy producing - a living laboratory for energy technologies and energy education; and an innovation incubator for new energy - space and access to faculty expertise and campus equipment to help new energy inventors and innovators bring their ideas from concept to prototype. The provincial government has already committed $9 million in funding to the project;
  • Durham is the only college in Ontario to offer an Elevating Devices Mechanic apprenticeship program, which utilizes an operating elevator and an escalator in the delivery of in-school training;
  • Boom and crawler cranes are used in the delivery of simulated and practical crane training to apprentices as part of Hoisting Engineer: Mobile Crane Operator, the only college program of its kind in Ontario;
  • There are 17 apprenticeship programs in all offered at the Whitby campus - including 11 that are Red Seal - and numerous trade-related certificate and diploma programs; and
  • All classrooms utilize state-of-the-art SmartBoard technology.

Award-winning students
  • During the 2007-2008 academic year, seven Durham College students won Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation awards in recognition of their outstanding leadership and success in the classroom and community. Two of these were Level 1 scholarships, of which only a few are awarded;
  • A third-year general Machinist apprentice proved he was the best in Canada when measured against his peers, by winning a gold medal at the National Skills Competition in May 2008. He also won gold at the provincial competition, while two other Durham College students earned provincial bronze medals, in hairstyling and electrical;
  • Two second-year Animation students demonstrated the calibre of Durham College students when they finished first at the 2008 Skills Canada Animation Contest;
  • Four Paramedic program students placed in the top 10 in their categories at the 2008 National Paramedic Competition in April;
  • Students in the Firefighter - Pre-Service, Education and Training program finished first in the 2008 Emergency Medical Services charity challenge, while also raising money for a charity that supports child burn victims; and
  • Two Business Administration - Marketing program students showed off their business savvy and scored a silver medal at the 2007 Ontario Colleges' Marketing Competition (OCMC) hosted by Fanshawe College in London, Ontario.
