    General Studies Major:
    The General Studies Major allows students the opportunity to study at a post-secondary level and explore career options. It also helps students fill the gaps in their academic history. Students can earn transfer credits to other programs of study. This option is the preferred choice if you are planning to move to a College career program, or if you are unsure of your future direction.

    Ontario College Certificate Requirements:

        * WRIT1030 - Reason and Writing 1 AND WRIT3002 - Reason and Writing 2 OR
          WRIT3002 - Reason and Writing 2 AND an Advanced English
        * 1 Social Science elective
        * 7 additional electives
        * at least 2 of the 10 courses must be at the advanced level
        * only 1 university course may be taken in the General Studies Major
        * must maintain a 2.0 grade point average ('C'), to graduate and proceed to the diploma stream


    Ontario College Diploma Requirements:

        * 10 more approved courses, 3 must be at the advanced level
        * total of 20 courses, 5 at the advanced level

    Liberal Studies Major:
    The Liberal Studies Major is designed for students who are heading to university, but who may need additional preparation or pre-requisites. Liberal Studies students may also prepare for career programs and earn transfer credits to other post-secondary programs. Students selecting this major should have a relatively strong secondary school background, a 'B' grade or better in English (U or OAC), and the intention to continue their post-secondary studies. All students wishing to take the Liberal Studies Major must take and pass the designated diagnostic test. This option is the preferred choice if you are University-bound, and is only available in the September intake.

    Ontario College Certificate Requirements:

        * ENGL3019 - Reading & Writing for Humanities
        * LIBS3001 - Themes in the Humanities
        * ENGL3002 - Researching/Writing for the Humanities
        * 1 university level Social Science course
        * an additional English course from the Literature and Composition list or ENGL7004, university level English
        * 4 electives
        * at least 3 of the 10 courses must be at the advanced level
        * a maximum of 2 university courses may be taken in the Liberal Studies Major
        * must maintain a 2.0 grade point average ('C'), to graduate and proceed to the diploma stream

    Please refer to the articulation agreement with Western for admission requirements and note that the minimum GPA required is 3.5.

    Ontario College Diploma Requirements:

        * 10 more approved courses, 4 must be at the advanced level
        * total of 20 courses, 7 at the advanced level

    Film Studies Major:

    The Film Studies Major is designed for students wishing to pursue a career in filmmaking or further their film studies at university.  This challenging major of study is designed to develop analytical and technical skills in the study and making of films.  Film major students may also prepare for career programs and earn transfer credits to other post-secondary programs. Students selecting this major should have a relatively strong secondary school background, a 'B' or better in English (U or OAC) and the intention to continue their post-secondary studies.  This option is the preferred choice if you wish to pursue a career in filmmaking or further your film studies at Fanshawe College in Advanced Filmmaking, a 45 week Ontario College Graduate Certificate program or attend university for film studies.  It is only available in the September intake.

    Ontario College Certificate Requirements:

        * WRIT1030 - Reason and Writing 1 AND WRIT3002 - Reason and Writing 2 OR
          WRIT3002 - Reason and Writing 2 AND an Advanced English
        * FILM1001 - Film Criticism I
        * one Social Science course
        * two of the following courses:
          FILM3001 - Documentary Cinema
          FILM5002 - Film Noir Cinema
          FILM5003 - Canadian Cinema
          FILM5001 - Film Criticism II

        * 4 elective courses
        * at least 2 of the 10 courses must be:
          advanced level courses, e.g. FILM5002; only one university course may be taken in the Film Studies Major, e.g. PHIL7002.

    Ontario College Diploma Requirements:

        * 10 more approved courses (including the following mandatory courses: FILM1001, FILM3001, FILM5001, FILM5002, FILM5003, FILM1002, FILM3004, and any two-part Social Science course (Level 1 and Level 2)
        * total of 20 courses, 5 at the advanced level

    Media and Design Fundamentals Major:
    The Media and Design Fundamentals Major is designed to develop a students' analytical and beginning technical skills in the study, knowledge of, and beginning practices in Media and/or Design.  Media and Design Fundamentals students may also prepare for career programs and earn transfer credits to other post-secondary programs.  Students selecting this major should have a relatively strong secondary school background in media, art, and design related courses, a 'B' grade or better in English (U or OAC), and the intention to continue their post-secondary studies.  This option is the preferred choice if you are planning to move to a college career program in the School of Contemporary Media or the School of Art and Design.  It is only available in the September intake.

    Ontario College Certificate Requirements:

        * WRIT1033 - Reason and Writing Media/Design AND WRIT3003 - Writing for Media OR
          WRIT3033 - Writing for Media AND WRIT3004 - Writing for the Web
        * INDS1024 - Visual Representation: Media Messages
        * INDS1025 - Tribes and Identity I
        * INDS5002 - New and Social Media
        * INDS5003 - Tribes and Identity II
        * 1 Social Science elective
        * 3 additional electives
        * at least 2 of the 10 courses must be at the advanced level; 1 university course counts as 2 advanced level courses
        * only 1 university course may be taken in the Media and Design Fundamentals Major
        * must maintain a 2.0 grade point average ('C'), to graduate and proceed to the diploma stream or Media or Design career programs
