    The criminology and criminal justice program is a multi-disciplinary approach to understanding the complex nature of criminal justice issues that incorporates components of Law, Psychology and Sociology
  • Practical experience
    The Field Placement option is offered at the third year level to the top 80 applicants based on an average of the marks received in their first and second year required courses [first year: PSYC 1001 AND PSYC 1002; SOCI 1001 AND SOCI 1002 AND LAWS 1000 and second year: PSYC 2400; SOCI 2445 and SOCI 2450 and LAWS 2004]. The placement is supplemented by a seminar course, which allows opportunities to share field placement experiences, discuss current criminal justice issues and learn from guest speakers with expertise in various areas of the criminal justice system.

    Psychology:      - Introduction to Psychology I & II PSYC 1001 [0.5] AND PSYC 1002 [0.5]

    Law:                 - Introduction to Legal Studies LAWS 1000 [1.0]

    Sociology:         - Introduction to Sociology SOCI 1001 [0.5] AND Introduction to Social Issues SOCI 1002 [0.5]
      (or Introduction to Sociology Perspectives SOCI 1003 [1.0] for Arts One Students)

    (3 Credits)

    Second year

    Psychology:   - Introduction to Forensic Psychology PSYC 2400 [0.5]  (PSYC 1001 and PSYC 1002)

    Law:              - Criminal Law in Context LAWS 2004 [1.0]  (LAWS 1000)

    Sociology:      - Sociology of Deviance SOCI 2445  [0.5] AND Criminology SOCI 2450  [0.5]  (both require C- or better in SOCI 1001 & SOCI 1002, or in ANTH 1001 & ANTH 1002, and 2nd-year standing.)

    Third year

    Criminology:   - Practicum (Field Placement) in CCJ CRCJ 3901 [1.0]  (limited enrollment ~ 3rd-year standing in CCJ and permission of the Institute) OR 1.0 credit(s) Approved CCJ Electives at the 3000-level or above(see Page 3,4)

    Psychology:   - Criminal Behaviour PSYC 3402 [0.5]  (PSYC 2100, PSYC 2400 or PSYC 2600)

    Law:              - Crime & State in History LAWS 3305 [0.5]  (3rd-year standing) OR Crime, Law, Process & Politics LAWS 3306 [0.5]  (LAWS 2004) OR Punishment and the Law LAWS 3308 [0.5] (LAWS 2004)

    Sociology:      - Studies in Criminal Justice Policy SOCI 3400 [0.5] OR Studies in Criminal Justice SOCI 3410 [0.5]

                              (both require SOCI 2445 & SOCI 2450 & 3rd-year standing.)

    A Concentration in Law requires these courses in addition to the Major Requirements:
