Master of Library and Information Studies/Master of Resource and Environmental Studies

  • Objectives Graduates of the combined MLIS/MREM program will be uniquely qualified to provide leadership within public and private organizations seeking to offer innovative information management solutions in the resource and environmental sectors. Through this distinctive program, graduates will combine core knowledge in the heavily interdisciplinary field of information management, problem-solving tools and social and biophysical scientific understanding. This twenty-eight month program will enable students to pursue careers such as: Fish and Wildlife Information Managers Traditional and Ecological Knowledge Managers Environment-related Information Managers Information Specialists Geospatial and Biological Data Librarians Drawing on the strengths of both programs, graduates will confidently and independently address both the biophysical and socio-political dimensions of resource and environmental issues. Advanced academic study as well as practical experience will challenge students to explore, question and gain competency. Students will be introduced to the development and significance of information management, to the underlying principles of the profession, and to the techniques of information organization, analysis, retrieval, and use, with special relevance for environmental management.
