  • Objectives oncordia University's Department of Physics' mission is twofold: to provide our students with the general knowledge they need to develop an understanding and appreciation of physics, and to equip them with the specific skills that are necessary to flourish in a working environment. Many of our programs, such as Co-op and Physics and Marketing, are specifically oriented towards industry, with the possibility of supplementing classroom learning with valuable workplace experience.

  • Course description  Core Program: 45 credits

        * 36 required credits in Physics including: Theoretical Physics, Computational Methods, Classical Mechanics, Optics, Electricity and Magnetism, Thermo‑dynamics, Atomic Physics and Quantum Mechanics
        * 6 required credits in Multivariate Calculus
        * 3 required laboratory credits in Experimental Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, and Atomic Physics

    Specialization in Physics - Option A: Pure/Computational Physics: 66 credits

        * 45 required credits in the Core Program as described above
        * 12 required credits in Theoretical Physics, Statistical Physics, Computational Methods and Independent Study and Project
        * 3 elective credits in either Solid State Physics or Nonlinear Dynamics/Chaos/Fractals
        * 6 elective credits chosen from: Experimental Optics and Electronics, Laser and Fibre Optics, Electronic Devices, Solid State Physics, Methods of Experimental Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Nuclear Physics, Nonlinear Dynamics/Chaos/Fractals
        * 24 elective credits from outside the Department of Physics
