The Addictions and Community Services Worker program at Vancouver Career College prepares graduates for a rewarding career in the field of community care. The  program combines theoretical and practical skills with courses that focus on psychology; fundamentals of addiction; physical effects of substance abuse; and relapse prevention. Students also study group facilitation and techniques for working with families. In addition to addictions support, the program also teaches additional community support techniques, such as dealing with family violence and special needs patients. Graduates can find work in a variety of settings, including social service agencies, correctional institutes, community mental health centres and drug and alcohol treatment facilities.
