Diploma in Health Care Aide

  • Course description Health care aides work under the supervision of nurses of health professionals but they work directly with the clients on a daily basis. Most clients of health care aides suffer from a chronic medical conditions or physical or cognitive impairment such as Alzheimer's disease, spinal injuries, epilepsy, and dementia. Health care aides provide the necessary support and assistance that clients need to help them carry out the necessary tasks for day-to-day living. Those tasks include but are not limited to mealtime assistance, medication delivery, bed making, client mobility, and assisting with child care.

Effective communication is a key component for the role of health care aide. In many instances, health care aides will be faced with difficult situations that require the confidence and experience to resolve in a non-violent manner. At Reeves College, we stress the importance of professionalism and train our students on how to recognize potentially violent situations and how to solve and resolve them. Students enrolled in our Health Care Aide diploma program will also complete two mandatory practicums in care facilities where they will take the knowledge they have learned in the classroom and apply it to clients in real-world situations.
