Comments about Master of Arts in Creative Art Therapy (Art Therapy) - At the institution - Montreal - Québec

  • Objectives
The Art Therapy Option is an intensive two-year preparation for a high level of professional competence in the applications of the visual arts in therapy. It is designed to educate and train art therapists who will function not only as competent primary or adjunct professionals in their field, but who will also have a strong sense of ethical and social responsibility.
  • Practical experience
Students acquire skill in the practice of art therapy through the application of theoretical principles during their fieldwork/practicum and through the extensive supervision provided by a variety of experienced practitioners. This practical aspect of the curriculum is provided by student practicum placements at any of 50 hospitals, health care and educational institutions participating in the program. Practicum experience entails observing and working with health care professionals, as well as direct contact with patients. Many ideas for research emerge from this hands-on experience, and provide the basis for case studies, research papers, and special projects.
