    This course introduces the student to the principles and purposes of Financial Management and accounting. The course focuses on the analysis of statements by external users of financial statements and how these statements impact internal decision making by a firm's management team.

    # HRP7106   -   004   -   Organizational Behaviour

    This course focuses on the explanation, prediction, and management of individual and group behaviour in the workplace with the objective of improving employee job performance.

    # HRP7110   -   003   -   Human Resources Management

    This is a survey of the various functions performed by the human resources department in an organization. Topics include human resource planning, recruitment, selection, training and development, performance appraisal, compensation and benefits, health and safety, and labour relations.

    # HRP7120   -   004   -   Occupational Health And Safety

    This course will examine the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act in order to understand employer, management, and employee rights and responsibilities for workplace health and safety. Other current legislation pertaining to this area will be covered and programs for the promotion of a safe and healthy workplace will be analyzed.

    Staffing requires the effective recruitment and selection of job candidates with the abilities, skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed by the organization. This course examines the principles, methods, and legal framework that pertain to this specialized area of the human resources function.

    # ISP7100   -   004   -   Computerized Information Processing

    This course is a hands-on introduction to microcomputers and business productivity software with applications streamlined for use within a Human Resources department. Students will use a windows environment to handle file management and backup and system utilities, and an office suite to perform document processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database tasks. Additional technology focusing on the mobile worker and the virtual office will also be covered.

    Semester 2

    # ACC7300   -   004   -   Managerial Accounting

    This course emphasizes the uses of accounting and finance information as required by managers in directing the affairs of business organizations. Managers require this information to plan operations, measure performance, control activities, and make effective decisions in order to achieve the firm's objectives. The course will concentrate on cost behaviour, budgeting, and use of managerial accounting information for decision-making purposes.

    # HRP7115   -   004   -   Training and Development

    This course concentrates on analyzing training needs, identifying training goals, developing and conducting training programs, and evaluating training results.

    # HRP7205   -   004   -   Compensation Management

    This course involves the development of an effective compensation and benefits package for an organization. It considers such areas as the legal aspects of employee compensation, pay surveys, job evaluation systems, assigning pay to jobs, using pay as a motivator, and pay equity issues.

    # HRP7210   -   004   -   Human Resource Planning

    In this course, needs forecasting, performance management, and career management topics will all come together. The student will be introduced to forecasting models that will assist in the strategic planning of the organization's human resources. Management succession and development, as well as individual career planning are components of the course.

    # HRP7215   -   004   -   Labour Relations

    This course will introduce the student to current labour relations practices in Canada with the emphasis on Ontario. Included are the history of the Canadian labour movement, union information, collective bargaining, grievance procedures, and the administration of a collective agreement.
