Enhance and strengthen your skills for success for college and career. Emphasis is on personal management, study skills, and critical thinking.
Role Concepts in Health Care Administration
Introduces the role of the Dental Business Assistant and explores the concepts of wellness, diversity, time management, communication, and conflict resolution techniques for the workplace.
Dental Terminology
Provides instruction in the language of dental terminology and teaches you how to read and interpret commonly used dental terms, symbols, and abbreviations.
Business Communications for Health Care Administration
This is an introduction to the importance of correct and current business English for the workplace environment. Topics include proofreading, spelling, grammar, number-style skills and an opportunity to apply basic writing techniques.
Computerized Dental Practice Management
This course includes the skills of coding dental procedures and billing. Practice is provided by the use of a clinical and practice-management software application.
Dental Insurance and Financial Management
This course introduces financial procedures within a dental office, knowledge of different dental insurance requirements and coding of procedures. Includes calculation of client claims to insurance companies.
Keyboarding and Document Processing for Health Care Administration
This course combines keyboarding for speed and accuracy with Microsoft computer applications required by health administrative assistants. For successful course completion, a keyboarding speed of 35 wpm is required.
Introduction to the Dental Office
This course examines dental office design and structure including office policies and procedures, ethics, legalities, confidentiality and safety.
Introductory Dental Office Management
This course presents basic office administrative skills. Topics include telephone communication, scheduling appointments, handling office mail, financial and payroll processes and filing systems.
Career Preparation
Develop skills in researching job opportunities, preparation of a résumé, participation in a job interview and development of a career portfolio.
Work Experience for Dental Business Assistants
A four-week work experience, under the guidance of a workplace preceptor, provides hands-on practice in a dental office or clinic. Weekly contact with the Bow Valley College instructor is provided.
